How much do you know about the roller welding process?

1. Choose the welding process according to the characteristics of the material

Each welding process corresponds to a type of material, and it is impossible to weld effectively without determining the material of the welding consumables to be welded in advance.

Like what Mig welding is suitable for alloy steel and non-ferrous metal welding

Mag welding is suitable for low aluminum alloy welding

TIG welding is suitable for stainless steel, aluminum, copper, titanium and their alloys (thickness is controlled within 0.5~8mm).

In addition, the material of the welding rod should also be considered

2. Selection of shielding gas

The choice of protective gas is particularly important for Mag welding, as the use of reactive gases such as CO2 can affect the welding depth. For Mig, Tig and plasma welding, the use of inert gases such as argon and xenon can protect stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium and titanium alloys, zirconium and other weldments from oxidation at high temperatures.

Only materials that are susceptible to high-temperature oxidation (e.g. titanium, tantalum, zirconium and their alloys) require extremely pure inert shielding gases. The protective airflow rate is also an important factor to consider, which also depends on the size of the protective device and its capacity. Care should also be taken to avoid containing inert gases that do not mix with surrounding gases or produce a venturi effect.

Laser welding usually requires an inert shielding gas, usually helium, but it is also often added to contain some argon and mixed gas, so that it can be used for the welding of certain metals.

3. There are many factors that affect safety in welding work, such as welding spatter, burns, explosions, sparks, currents, radiation, strong light burning, smoke...... Therefore, a protective facility (such as a protective cover, ventilation chamber, etc.) should be placed around the equipment, and personal protective equipment (such as protective clothing, welding gloves, protective shoes, goggles, etc.) can be used if the protective facility is used unconditionally. In confined places, gas detectors should also be provided to prevent hypoxia (oxygen content < 17%).

4. Preparation before welding

Pre-treatment is important for welding, and the surface of the weld is treated in this step to make it easy to weld. correction. Not only that, but also to improve the welding quality of products through rust removal, protection and other processes.

5. Docking accuracy

The accurate positioning of the butt plate is a prerequisite for precise anchoring. Positioning during welding requires high precision, and the position of the weldment must be controlled at all times during the welding process.

6. External environment control

It is very important to control the air inlet to prevent other liquids or particles from affecting the weld. When welding, it is necessary to install windproof facilities (to prevent the ingress of external gases during welding).

7. Welding speed monitoring

In order to ensure the stability of the welding speed, it is necessary to use numerical control equipment. In order to ensure the quality of the weld, it is necessary to control the electrode speed uniformly and stably. If the welding speed is too fast, it is easy to lead to virtual welding and have to be reworked.

8. Characteristics of the electrode

The appropriate electrode inclination angle is different for different welding processes, so it is necessary to check whether the angle is suitable when operating. The quality of the weld is highly dependent on the type of current and polarity. One of the great advantages of TIG welding is its flat seam and high weld penetration.

9. Maintenance of equipment

Another important part of welding work is the maintenance of the equipment, including the regular replacement of aging parts, the removal of fouling from the inner wall of the nozzle, etc.

10. Select the welding process according to the thickness of the weldment

The most suitable welding process is selected to obtain the best welding results. Undoubtedly, laser welding and Mig welding are the two welding processes with the best welding results. After welding, it is necessary to maintain the appropriate inclination angle of the welding torch, otherwise it will lead to the escape of inert gas and the viscosity of the surface of the solder joint.
